The Best Viewpoints in Khao Yai

Khao Yai’s viewpoints are the reason the cool season fills up: from November to February the mornings deliver a sea of mist below the cliffs, and the evenings a clean sunset over the plains. Four of the best are inside Khao Yai National Park, reached through the Pak Chong checkpoint about 40 km from Mövenpick Resort Khao Yai; the fifth — the wind-farm ridge above Lam Takhong Dam — is 25 minutes from the resort and needs no park ticket. Pha Diao Dai — the “Lonely Cliff” Sea of Mist in 2026

 

 

Pha Diao Dai is the park’s signature viewpoint: a boardwalk along a cliff edge on the Khao Khiao ridge, over 1,000 metres up, looking out over the forest towards the Nakhon Nayok side. Arrive at first light in the cool season for the mist. The road up Khao Khiao is steep and winding; allow extra time and a jacket — temperatures on the ridge run several degrees below the lowlands.

Pha Trom Jai and the Km 30 Viewpoint

 

 

Pha Trom Jai is the second cliff on the Khao Khiao road, with a broad panorama and fewer visitors than Pha Diao Dai; the two are usually visited together. The Km 30 viewpoint sits on the main park road near the visitor centre and is the easy option — a roadside stop with a sweeping view of the ranges, no walk required, good in the late afternoon.

 

Nong Pak Chi Wildlife Tower

 

 

Not a mountain view but a grassland one: a short walk of about a kilometre from the road brings you to an observation tower over the Nong Pak Chi salt lick and meadow, where elephants, gaur and deer come to feed. Dawn and dusk are the times; bring binoculars and keep quiet on the platform.

 

Khao Yai Thiang — Wind Turbines over Lam Takhong
